Windermere - Lake District
Windermere, England's largest naturally formed lake is elongated in shape, just over 11 miles long and never exceeds 1 mile at its widest point. The towns of Ambleside in the north, Bowness and Windermere at the mid point and Newby Bridge are located on the shoreline. Ferry services run across the lake as ell as pleasure steamers along its length, and for steam enthusiasts there is a double treat with the Haverthwaite Steam Railway at Windermere and the steam boat museum also situated on the shores at Windermere town itself.
